Recruiters have been using search engines such as Google and Yahoo! to conduct background checks on job candidates for a number of years now, their justification being that it helps to give them a better overall view of a potential employee. More recently, however, between 20 and 30% of employers now confess to using social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace to provide them with a different kind of ‘insider view’ - and some are finding out things that they are only too pleased to know up front!
